World Health Day (WHD) is observed every year on April 7 to mark the anniversary of the foundation day of World Health Organization (WHO). The WHO was founded on 7 April 1948, with the principle that all people should be able to realize their right to the highest possible level of health. Every year a different theme is selected keeping in mind the global public health concern.
WHD theme for 2020 is “Support Nurses and Midwives”
Being the International Year of Nurse and Midwife, WHO is highlighting the role played by them around the world. Nurses and other health workers are at the forefront of COVID-19 response. The recommendations are needed to strengthen the nurse and midwifery workforce as to achieve national and global targets of Universal Health Coverage.
